2011 Honda CRZ

2011 Honda CRZ
Honda's CR-Z hybrid coupe remains on track as a 2011 model, on sale in late 2010. Honda wants sports-car enthusiasts to buy it not because it's green, but because it's fun. The carmaker considered doing a non-hybrid version of the CR-Z, but it desperately wants to be seen as a hybrid supplier on par with Toyota and believes it needs a range of dedicated hybrid-only models to achieve that.

So the CR-Z gets a lively 140-horse, 1.8-liter Civic-derived engine. The IMA system -- motor, battery, electronics -- will be like the Insight's, as will the platform, to save cost. A senior engineer says, "It must be fun to drive, must remind you of the original CRX." And a manual gearbox will be offered. "CVT is fine for the market, mostly. But we are Honda! We must have a manual!"

Honda recalls Jazz or Fit

Honda Recalls Jazz-Fit

List of car withdrawn from circulation, especially in the United States (U.S.) and Europe, grew last week. After Toyota pulled back (recall) 2.3 million units of cars in the U.S., Honda's turn now to do a similar move.

Honda Motor Co. (HMC) 646,000 units withdrew Honda Jazz, which in some countries known as the Honda Fit, due to defects in the window. Defects that could cause a short circuit, thus potentially causing a fire. HMC spokesman yesterday said the withdrawal was included output of 140,000 units in 2001 car-2008di U.S.. "Inijugabisaberpengaruh of models sold in North America, South America, Europe, South Africa, and Asia, but not in Japan," he said.

In September 2009, Cape Town, South Africa, a two-year-old son, Vanilla Nurse, died while sleeping in the Honda Jazz car suddenly caught fire. Friday (29 / 1) and then, a number of media, describing the cause of the burning Honda Jazz in Cape Town. According to timesonline.co.uk, Honda recognizes the event is triggered on key issues at the window pane mobil.Masalah on this panel buttons vulnerable cause a short circuit, particularly if the troubled parts exposed to water.

Honda Jazz news recall that happened just moments after announcing the withdrawal of millions of Toyota cars in the U.S. and European markets. Last week, Toyota pulled 2.3 million units of cars from various models in AS.Toyota also pulled 1.8 million units of cars which spread in Europe and China. "We apologize for making the customer feel comfortable and with condition dipersulitkan This (withdrawal of the car), "said President of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Akio Toyoda told NHK the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Friday (29 / 1), local time.

Before Europe, Toyoda has announced the withdrawal of 2.3 million his automotive products in the United States (U.S.). News circulating mention, the withdrawal is done because there are problems on the gas pedal functions Toyota cars.

2010 Honda CR-V

Honda CR-V
IMAGES OF HONDA’S updated CR-V have been let out ahead of the car’s Japanese launch on September 17, showing mild styling revisions are in store for the marque’s popular softroader. The side sheetmetal and headlight shapes carry over, but the front bumper, grille and bonnet are new. The 2010 Honda CR-V also receives new 17 and 18-inch alloy wheels.

For the European market, the 2010 Honda CR-V will be offered in base SE, mid-range ES and top-spec EX variants. New technologies introduced to the 2010 Honda CR-V include adaptive cruise control and a collision-detecting crash avoidance system, both of which are optional on the EX grade model.

Cabin fabrics and plastics are upgraded, and a new centre stack design will house the 2010 Honda CR-V’s audio system and ventilation controls. Improved sound deadening is claimed to lower noise from the engine and the outside environment, which, in Honda’s words, makes the 2010 Honda CR-V “an even quieter and more relaxing car to drive”.

The Euro-spec CR-V will offer a new 110kW 2.2 lite i-DTEC diesel engine, which produces a sizable 350Nm of torque from 2000rpm and comes with the option of a manual or five-speed automatic gearbox. All engines in the 2010 Honda CR-V range will be Euro V emissions compliant.

CR-V facelift delayed by Honda

CR-V facelift
HONDA has delayed the vital midlife facelift for its CR-V, which was once Australia’s top-selling compact SUV but now trails Subaru’s all-conquering Forester, Toyota’s once-dominant RAV4, Hyundai’s Tucson, the Nissan X-Trail and even Mitsubishi’s Outlander. Launched here in February 2007, the third-generation CR-V – sales of which are more than 50 per cent down so far this year – was due to have been upgraded this year, as revealed to GoAuto by Honda Australia managing director and CEO Yasuhide Mizuno at this year’s Melbourne show.

The release of the yet-to-appear CR-V facelift, which is believed to comprise cosmetic updates and extra safety features at base level but no mechanical changes, has now been pushed back to 2010 because of the worldwide automotive market downturn.

Honda Australia national public relations manager Mark Higgins said this week the refreshed CR-V will go on sale here later than expected in the first quarter of 2010. “It has been pushed back one quarter or two, but that’s about all,” confirmed Mr Higgins. “I think it’s probably a lot to do with the global financial crisis. All the factories have moved down in the number of shifts they are doing. It is a global decision – not ours.” GoAuto understands the revised CR-V will bring side curtain airbags at no extra cost on the entry-level variant, which currently only features twin front and front-side airbags as standard, bringing Honda’s small SUV entrant into line with its leading competitors.

Honda has confirmed it will also bring a smoother front-end look than the current model’s, via revised headlights, a less complex grille and new front bumper. “It’s a minor model change, not a full model change, so my understanding is there will be mainly cosmetic changes – just some visual changes. There will be no mechanical changes at this stage,” said Mr Higgins. The CR-V’s share of Australia’s compact SUV segment has shrunk by almost half since mid-2008, from more than 13 per cent to 7.4 per cent.

2010 Honda CR-V Facelift: European Market Model Revealed, gets More Powerful Diesel and Auto

2010 Honda CR-V Facelift: European Market Model Revealed, gets More Powerful Diesel and Auto
While the Japanese market 2010 CR-V facelift isn't due to be revealed until September 17, Honda's European division surprised us today with the unveiling of the domestic market model that's set to go on sale from January 2010. In addition to the gentle cosmetic facelift, the European-spec CR-V that is built in the UK also benefits from a cleaner and more powerful 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine that can now be coupled to a new automatic transmission.

For the 2010 model year, the CR-V's looks have been slightly refreshed with newly designed front and rear bumpers, a more conventionally styled front grille without the chrome bars and new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels plus color coded bumper on higher grade models.

2010 Honda CR-V Facelift

There are no pictures of the interior as of yet but Honda says that the 2010 CR-V receives upgraded fabrics and plastics inside along with a new audio console design. Furthermore, the company claims to have improved sound deadening around the engine and cabin. Under the bonnet, the revised SUV gets a updated version of the company's 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine that now produces 150 horsepower and 350Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque at 2,000 rpm, an increase of 10 hp and 10Nm over the previous unit.

This diesel unit can be paired with either a manual transmission or Honda's new 5-speed automatic gearbox that has been developed in-house. Honda said that full specs and pricing on the 2010 CR-V will be announced later in the year, but it is possible that we might learn more about the facelifted model at next week's Frankfurt Show.

Honda Freed Released in Japan

Honda Freed
Honda have launched the Freed compact minivan in Japan, which delivers seating for up to eight people in a package that uses just 6.1 litres of fuel per 100km.Based on the same platform as the Honda Jazz, the Freed lays claim to being the first true 8-seater in the small car class. Of course, it’s doubtful that six full-size Australian’s would be able to comfortably fit in the back of the Freed (legroom looks far from generous) but that’s no real problem for Honda, as for now the Freed remains a Japan-only model.

Still, it’s a vehicle that us Australians could probably use. With the rapidly escalating price of fuel, it no longer makes sense for urban families to taxi their children around in thirsty SUVs. With the ability to seat 6 small people in the back, the Freed would make an excellent load-lugger for parents who live in or close to city centers, and with its 1.5-litre inline-four engine and CVT gearbox it would sip petrol, rather than chug it down. Not only that, but its relatively small size, one-box shape and 5.2m turning circle would make the Freed a cinch to park, which would no doubt be a boon in shopping centre carparks and retail strips. You don’t have to cram 8 people in it either, with a seven seat version boasting comfy-looking second-row captains chairs and a five seat version offering an expansive (and flat) cargo area. All of them have dual rear sliding doors too, so there’ll be no more door dings inflicted on adjacent cars by your pesky offspring.

It’s not fast, it’s not pretty, but it doesn’t have to be. The Freed is practical, and the way in which it combines an admirably large cabin with low fuel consumption means the Freed gets my vote for being the ultimate urban transport. After all, what other small car could fit not one, but two fully-assembled bicycles without great difficulty?

2009 Honda Freed

Honda Freed
The new Honda Freed was unveiled today in Tokyo. The Freed is compact minivan, based on the new 2009 Honda Jazz. While the Freed retains the same width as the Jazz / Fit at 1,695 mm, it’s longer (4,215 mm vs 3,900 mm), higher (1,715 mm vs 1,525 mm) and it also features an extended wheelbase measuring 2,740 mm in length (vs 2,500 mm).

Honda will offer three variants the Freed on local market: a seven-passenger edition; an eight-passenger version and a five-passenger type which offers a large cargo space. All three variants of the Freed are also equipped with sliding rear doors on either side of the vehicle. 2009 Honda Freed will be offered in front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive variants, both of which are equipped with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder that delivers anjavascript:void(0) output of 120Hp. No word about the Freed will find its way out of the Japan.

  • Toyota quality plastics and fabric upholstery
  • Dedicated EV mode at speeds 25 mph or less

Now for the evening’s main event — In the corner to my right, The Challenger, wearing Alabaster Silver Metallic — weighing in at $19,800, ranked as the top-selling vehicle in Japan in April 2009 — ‘The Samurai from Suzuka’ - Honda Insight!

The Insight shows off its dedication to green with its blinking Eco Assist (Ecological Drive Assist System) display and the crowd responds enthusiastically.

In the far corner, wearing Classic Silver Metallic - Weighing in at $22,000, undefeated in forty-six fights, and Heavyweight Hybrid of the World — ‘The Undisputed Eco-Statement of the 21st Century’ - Toyota Prius!

The arena EXPLODES and Prius shadowboxes and dances in the ring with its superior fuel economy of 50 mpg.

2010 Honda Insight vs. Toyota Prius

Pre-Fight Hype

Toyota has dominated the hybrid car market in North America since the introduction of the second generation Prius in 2004. Now in its tenth year of production, the all-new third generation Prius* looks better, has more power, and gets better gas mileage than the previous generation. After Honda announced its new 2010 hybrid last fall, the media touted the upcoming Insight as the “Prius Killer”. With both cars now on the market, just how does the Insight stack up against the Prius?

How the Prius and Insight Measure Up Side By Side

It is no accident that the two cars are similar in appearance - the wedge shape with the Kamm-tail (i.e. the chopped off rear end) provides excellent aerodynamics and improves fuel economy. The Insight boosts an EPA estimated city/highway fuel economy rating of 40/43 MPG, which pales when compared to the 51/48 MPG for the 2010 Prius. Contrary to the usual expectation that better fuel economy means less power, the Prius has a larger, more powerful 1.8L Atkinson-cycle, four cylinder gasoline engine producing 98 horsepower and a 60 kilowatt electric motor outputting 80 horsepower, resulting in a total of 134 horsepower. The Insight has a 1.3L i-VTEC gasoline engine producing 88 horsepower and a much smaller 10 kilowatt electric motor which provides another 13 horsepower, combined to give a total of 98 horsepower. And the difference is definitely felt behind the wheel. For people used to driving a regular combustion engine, switching to a hybrid car is always an adjustment, and switching to the Insight requires a whole new set of expectations.

2010 Toyota Prius vs. Honda Insight

Still, 40/43 MPG is nothing to sneeze at, and for those of us on a tight budget, youngsters wanting a sportier look and a fun feel, or people who just prefer a smaller car, the Insight is the most affordable hybrid available on the market today with a starting MSRP, for the LX model, at $19,800. The base price of our EX test car is $21,300. For drivers who need a personal navigator to find their way to the local Stop-N-Go, the Insight EX with Navigation has a list price of $23,100.

Driving Impressions

In a Prius the electric motor can power the car on its own. In the Honda the electric motor is designed to “assist” the gasoline engine, providing more get-up-and-go when the need arises. The net result is this: in a Prius the transformation from electricity to gas-engine is subtle. In the Insight there are all sorts of noises and rumblings. The blending of gas and electric power is seamless enough, but the car feels jerky coming out of idle from a stop. Plus, the Insight rides firmly and has lots of road noise.

Because the Honda has two motors, one that runs on fossil fuels and one that runs on batteries, it is more expensive to make than a car that has one. But since the whole point of this car is that it could be sold for less than Toyota’s Smugmobile, the engineers have plainly cut the suspension components to the bone. The result is a ride that feels more connected to the road , but not very inspiring when traveling a little above the posted speed limit. Steering feedback feels real and not artificially boosted as with the Prius. Understeer is predominate when entering turns and is a huge reminder to reduce your speed accordingly before entering.

The Honda’s gas engine is a much-shaved, built-for-economy, low-friction 1.3 that, at full tilt, makes a noise worse than someone else’s crying baby on an airplane. It’s worse than the sound of your parachute failing to open. Really, to get an idea of how awful it is, you’d have to sit a cat on a Cuisinart. Despite the Insight’s caterwauling and power deficit compared to the Prius, it does have decent throttle response and pick up — for a hybrid.

2010 Toyota Prius vs. Honda Insight

They say patience is a virtue and 0-60-mph times of these hybrid hatchbacks are a test of your willingness to let time slip by, as the Prius gets to 60 mph from a standstill in 10.1 seconds, while the Insight needs 10.9 seconds. The Insight is a scrapper and closes the gap in the quarter mile race. While waiting in line at the Costco checkout aisle, the Prius finishes the quarter mile in 17.3 seconds at 79.7 mph, while the Insight is there in 17.9 seconds at 78.2 mph.

The stiff new chassis gives Toyota’s hybrid hatchback a stable and refined ride on a par with other midsize cars. Road noise is better controlled, too, with quieter tires and better cabin insulation. The electric-assisted power steering still lacks feedback, but between a new rigid mounting system and extra steering caster, the wheel seems more secure in our hands, with a heightened on-center feel. The driving position still isn’t perfect, but the new seat design and telescoping steering wheel are a big improvement.
