More than 30 all-new cars will make their word debuts at the Detroit Motor Show – making it one of the very best ever.

And although many firms have shrouded their plans in secrecy, Auto Express can reveal the expected highlights in this A-Z guide. We kick off with Audi, a guaranteed star of 2008. The firm has said it will show two new cars, the first tipped to be a hot version of the TT, possibly badged RS. There’s no official word on the second debutant, but speculation suggests it could be an evolution of the R8 powered by a V12 diesel.

BMW will show off its X6 crossover SUV, the 1-Series Convertible and a range of diesel engines which are tuned to meet US emissions laws. Chrysler will present its new electric ecoVoyager MPV, while Ferrari’s star is a biofuel-compatible evolution of the F430. Highlights from Ford include a new small car. The US giant has plans to debut a 4x4 supermini based on the Verve, which will replace the Fiesta.

It will also reveal a replacement for the US-only F-150 pick-up – a key model for the company’s future success. Jeep will embrace eco-friendly technology with its Renegade concept. It’s powered by electric motors in each wheel, which are fed by two lithium-ion batteries that are recharged by a small diesel engine. KIA plans to unveil its Borrego off-roader – a seven-seat rival to models such as the Land Rover Discovery.

Land Rover will also be there with its LRX concept, a compact 4x4 designed for urban environments. Lexus is showing the production version of the long-awaited 200mph-plus LF-A coupé, and Mazda will display an updated RX-8 with a new-look nose. Mercedes will showcase its sporty AMG models next to the GLK and SL, while Mitsubishi has an Evo X-based replacement for the GTO two-seater coupé. The model is powered by a turbocharged diesel engine, and has four-wheel drive and a semi-automatic gearbox.

Nissan will pull the wraps from its Forum people carrier, and takes its GT-R to the US for the first time. Subaru will also be unveiling its flagship Impreza STI, while Toyota promises to unveil a new production model alongside it’s A-BAT pick-up truck. Once the show is underway this weekend, be sure to check back for the best pictures, videos and stories online.
