Mercedes-Benz is feeling festive at the New York Auto Show. Yesterday I attended their House of Bluetec Party featuring a full-set by Sheryl Crow and today Benz unveiled the new 2009 M-Class. While last night's party was full of fashionistas, including the Season Five Project Runway winner, the show was strictly car business (with balloons and election satire for good measure).

The skin of the M is similar to its predecessor, with finite modifications on the interior. It's difficult to say too much about a vehicle's potential under fluorescent lights, so judgments must be reserved for the open road.

What I found most compelling was how Benz took Bluetec and mixed it with green initiative for the simultaneous unveiling of the ML 320, R320 and the GL320. All three of these vehicles get 600 miles per gas tank and up to 30 percent better fuel economy according to company numbers. When the M first came out in 2005, times sure were different in the car industry and the American industry
